Disconnect all garden hoses from their accompanying water spigots - Leaving the hose on your water spigot may cause your spigot to crack, leaving you with some troubles.
DO NOT salt your driveway - Salt has an eroding effect on concrete and asphalt. While salt may do a great job at getting ice off your driveway, it will significantly reduce the life of your concrete and can be harmful to your pet.
Bump Up Your Humidifier - The winter is the driest time of the year. Low humidity in a home can cause shrinkage in your home, resulting in cracks in materials such as drywall. Low humidity can also be very bad for furniture and musical instruments.
Clear Gutters - Although unlikely, it is possible for ice to build up in your gutters, which may cause expensive leaks. To prevent this, clear any debris from your gutters before the snow melt.
Thank you for the reminders to do all of those things to prepare for winter. The cold season came so late this year that I really just forgot about all of these things. It was a good thing I read this blog though! Quick question, do you guys do custom built homes? I'm looking at finally fulfilling a life long dream to design my own house, and I think the time has finally come!
