DJK's Checklist To Prepare Your Home For The Approaching Colder Weathe

As the cooler Fall weather approaches there is no perfect time to take care of the little things that may cause a lot of trouble to your home and health as the colder weather settles in. Though a DJK Home has been built to outperform almost anything that it endures, it is important to take a few additional steps in order to make your home overcome the long winter ahead without any problems. The list of tasks to keep in mind will help save you money and make your life a little less stressful this winter.
  • Inspect and clean gutters and downspouts.
  • Inspect your roof for damaged or curled shingles, corroded flashing, or leaky vents.
  • Inspect your home for any air leaks near windows and doors leading to the outdoors
  • Inspect Your Walkway, Driveway, & Steps for any cracks or imperfections
  • Prepare to shut off your outside faucets and in-ground irrigation systems
  • Clean or replace dirty furnace filters
  • Have your furnace inspected
  • Check your fireplaces for soot or creosote build up
  • Ensure your humidifier is operating efficiently
  • Test smoke and CO monitors, inspect (install) fire extinguishers, and do some early-on fall cleaning of hazardous household chemicals or materials.
  • Clear space around heaters, furnaces, and other heat producing appliances that may ignite if placed too close.
